The draw leaves the tie evenly poised heading into the second leg next week. Nacional will be confident of causing an upset in front of their home fans, while River Plate will be looking to maintain their impressive record in the competition.
The second leg of the semifinal will be played on October 25 at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
